Mouth Cancer Screening

Mouth cancer, also called oral cancer, occurs mostly in males aged 50-74 according to the NHS. However, it can affect anyone of any age or gender.

In most cases of mouth cancer, small lumps or lesions appear somewhere on the lining of the mouth. Your dentist is trained to detect the early onset of oral cancer.

What are the symptoms of mouth cancer?

There are several possible symptoms of mouth cancer, including:

  • Mouth ulcers that won’t heal
  • Bleeding sores
  • Lumps and bumps
  • Red or white patches
  • Unexplained loosening of teeth
  • A change in your speech like a lisp

What causes mouth cancer?

Smoking or chewing tobacco can increase your chances of developing mouth cancer, as can consuming alcohol.

How can I prevent mouth cancer?

In addition to not smoking and limiting your alcohol intake, maintaining a healthy diet can help prevent mouth cancer. Bring unusual lumps or lesions that persist to the attention of your dentist as soon as possible.

Call us on 01925 266 488 and make an appointment for an oral cancer screening and a dental exam. Your oral health is important to us.
